about

'Oh My Sweet Virginia' is the second song on the 'This Is A Working Vinyl' EP by Migrant Motel. Based on real events, David talks of a relationship that ended going downhill. It's not so much a "you broke my heart, now I hate you" song, but more of a "you used to be really cool, it's a shame who you've become" song.

“If you’re dating a writer and they don’t write about you — whether it’s good or bad — then they don’t love you. They just don’t. Writers fall in love with the people we find inspiring.” ― Jamie Anne Royce

lyrics

Excuse me one second while I chuck these empty bottles off my desk
I confess we went a little wild
Excuse me a second while I pull these shards of broken expectations from my chest of your desire

But everybody talks, about how you turned your passions inside out
Everybody talks and everybody knows

Oh my sweet Virginia, your not the girl that I once held
You used to be my lover, now you love without a care
But that sweet Virginia, is the girl I bid farewell
I held you once, now you gotta hold yourself

Last night in Allston dancing salsa with the rats up on the street
Your no where on my mind
Last night in Allston you run out his house wearing his bedroom sheets
a mess, but your still fine

Then you turn around, and you see me dancing, you make it a duet
Now its morning and I'm trying to forget

Oh my sweet Virginia, your not the girl that I once held
You used to be my lover, now you love without a care
But that sweet Virginia, is the girl I bid farewell
I held you once, now you gotta hold yourself

Oh my sweet Virginia, your not the girl that I once held
You used to be my lover, now you love without a care
But that sweet Virginia, is the girl I bid farewell
I held you once, now you gotta hold yourself
